Race for all Mothers!

My mother's day was spent at the Mall of America with my Aunt Kathy, husband, and cousin Becky.  We participated in the Race for the Cure: Susan B. Komen Mother's Day 5K.  Aunt Kathy is a survivor and an inspiration to us all!  It was an eye opening experience for me and one I will never forget. So here is to all those mothers out there, healthy, strong, confident, and determined women!
We appreciate Tim's mom watching the boys for the morning of the walk.  The boys had a great time at the park and DQ with her!
P.S. my boys spoiled me like crazy once again for Mother's Day and I am so grateful for all 4 of them!  We had a great family hike at 7 mile creek the day before and lots of fun just on a blanket in the grass after the race on Sunday.  Love them to pieces!!

First Mate Charles T. turns 5!!

Charlie was lucky enough to celebrate his birthday multiple times this year.  He is a very special little boy who brightens our days with hugs, crazy stories, and imaginary play!  It is amazing to me how much he has grown up this past year.  For example, this morning I was getting ready and he says to his brothers "lets go boys, I'm making breakfast!".  Sure enough Charles T. got a chair, pushed it over to the counter, grabbed three bowls, spoons, cereal, and milk.  Then he asked Max and Linc what they wanted (after telling them their choices) and proceeded to pour the cereal and milk for them.  I was silently watching the wonderful interaction between big bro and lil bros behind them and heard Charlie say to Max "now carry this to the table without spilling your milk!"  Max says "ok Charlie, thanks!".  haha  Forget hiring a babysitting, I will just start paying Charlie to watch his brothers.
Charlie is into Star Wars, Ninjagos, golf, basketball, and riding his bike (no training wheels!).  He is signed up for 8 weeks of camp this summer, two being in Rapid City.  He will stay with Gran and Papa (w/o mom and dad) and go to camp with cousin Malaki.  I don't know who is more excited about this, Charlie, Mak, or PAPA!  On his birthday Dad surprised him by coming home early and taking him to the driving range for the first time.  Charlie was soooooo excited and Tim said he did awesome.  They can't wait to go again.
His party with friends this year was at the WOW Zone.  We just had two school friends with us and his brothers.  It was a great afternoon and totally manageable.
As every year previous, Charlie made his donation to the Theresa House for his birthday.  He went to Target with Aunt Tina to pick out the things he wanted to donate and then got help from a few friends, Aaron and Heather Banks, Jess and Tate Mathiason, and Sandy and Larry Walsh.  We really appreciate everyone's efforts to make this experience a good one for him.  He talked about seeing kids at the shelter and how they were going to use the supplies he was donating.
(sorry I am writing a lot - so much to say about him)
Last night he graduated from preschool!  He is officially ready for kindergarten!  This was his teacher's last class; she is retiring after 31 years at that school.  While we were leaving she stopped us to say how much she enjoyed having Charlie in her class.  She said Charlie is one of her favorite preschoolers EVER (with tears in her eyes).  She told us that she will be looking for his name on the honor rolls in grade school and expects that he will do great things with his life.  This made my day!  We already knew that Charlie has a heart of gold and a brain much more mature than his years.  To hear these words from his teacher of 2 years means the world to Tim and I.  Miss Terry says "whatever you are doing, it is working!  Don't change a thing."  Sometimes we wonder because we see the negative attitude and misbehaviors but Miss Terry says he does this at home because he knows Mom and Dad won't give him away!  Very true!

Happy birthday Charles Timothy!
You are an amazing young man and we know you will be everything God intended for you to be!

Celebrating with friends at the WOW zone
(buddy Grant is sitting by him)

Charlie, Jaspir, and Grant are great buddies with similar personalities.  It is amazing to me how his attitude and body language changes when he is around different people.

Max loved hanging out with Jaspir!

Daddy helped all the kids bowl.  It was a pretty relaxing afternoon for me :)

Aunt Tina Wins the Race!

Last week we finished our weight loss competition and our big winner was Aunt Tina!!!  She has lost 76 + lbs in 4 months!!  We are so proud of her and everyone that participated in this journey.  All of the Haggars that participated placed in the top ten and lost a combined total of 275 lbs!  It was a wonderful experience and I hope to continue to see these healthy changes in my family and friends.

At the end of a great night in our fabulous new dresses
Aunt Tina had a date with the birthday boy.  They went to their favorite place for dinner - Red Lobster and shopping for his donation to the Theresa House.

Max was trying to convince Tina to take him to dinner instead.

Tough Bodyguards for Aunt Tina

While we were at our party, Uncle Terry and Aunt Colleen boysat for us again.  The boys love going to Uncle Ter's house.  Since Uncle Terry's birthday is May 4th and Charlie's is May 7th, we made a cake so they could celebrate together.  Charlie said it had to be a basketball cake, and that is just what they got.

Cousin Ali was reading and drawing with the boys.  They would go anywhere with her!

RUN HAPPY - 1ST of many 5K's!

After losing 34 lbs in 4 months and a lot of running, I was ready to join Faye for our first 5K!  We signed up for the RiverRat Marathon in Yankton, SD.  There was a bike race, 5K, Half marathon, and marathon.  It was an amazing feeling of accomplishment to finish.  Faye and I had not had the opportunity to run together before the race but you wouldn't have known it.  We ran side by side and she pushed me to finish strong.  We did just that!  It was the fastest time for both of us - 29 minutes 50 seconds (3.1 miles).  I have never been a runner and never thought I would be.  Being surrounded by all of those athletes again brought out my competitiveness.  My parents, sons, husband, brother, and nieces cheered us on under blankets while holding signs (thanks Tim!).  They were able to find us a few times during the race to show their pride and yell "go mama go!"  I didn't need more than that to run my heart out!
Tim and I are signed up for the Breast Cancer 5K on Mother's day with some of my cousins and the Warrior Dash in July with Tim's sister Heather.  Faye and I will be running the 10K in Arnold's park at the end of July as well.  I won't stop now that I started!  I hope to beat my own times now and continue to live a healthy, active lifestyle with those I love!!

Right before we started, nerves, excitement, and chills.

Thanks Faye for pushing me and motivating me the whole way!  Thanks to all my family for believing in me and cheering me on the whole way!  The best support system a girl could ask for..
