After losing 34 lbs in 4 months and a lot of running, I was ready to join Faye for our first 5K! We signed up for the RiverRat Marathon in Yankton, SD. There was a bike race, 5K, Half marathon, and marathon. It was an amazing feeling of accomplishment to finish. Faye and I had not had the opportunity to run together before the race but you wouldn't have known it. We ran side by side and she pushed me to finish strong. We did just that! It was the fastest time for both of us - 29 minutes 50 seconds (3.1 miles). I have never been a runner and never thought I would be. Being surrounded by all of those athletes again brought out my competitiveness. My parents, sons, husband, brother, and nieces cheered us on under blankets while holding signs (thanks Tim!). They were able to find us a few times during the race to show their pride and yell "go mama go!" I didn't need more than that to run my heart out!
Tim and I are signed up for the Breast Cancer 5K on Mother's day with some of my cousins and the Warrior Dash in July with Tim's sister Heather. Faye and I will be running the 10K in Arnold's park at the end of July as well. I won't stop now that I started! I hope to beat my own times now and continue to live a healthy, active lifestyle with those I love!!

After the race with Tim, Max, and Charlie. Lincoln won't leave Papa's arms for the pic.
WooHoo! We did it! and now we get a snack :)
This was the home stretch - almost there!
All the hard work paid off!
Our cheerleaders trying not to freeze - it was about 40 degrees
Charlie, Sophie, and Izzy sharing body heat!
Right before we started, nerves, excitement, and chills.
Thanks Faye for pushing me and motivating me the whole way! Thanks to all my family for believing in me and cheering me on the whole way! The best support system a girl could ask for..

Awesome job Mel!! You look great too (in a not hitting on you way; don't worry Tim)!! Running has been an important part of my life. It's mostly a personal battle, but there's also this great running fraternity that is so welcoming and supportive at races. Good luck to you and Tim at your next run in a week!!
Thanks Steve - I will tell Tim gently that you think I look great! LOL He misses you!
I have to say that I have surprised myself and have more confidence that I have ever possessed before. Take care!
